Guardian Activity Checklist

1. Claim Your Guardian-in-Training Badge

The Mission: After saving the winter harvest, Fenric the Gray Wolf honored Dukey and Dudley in front of the entire forest, giving them official titles and shiny new badges. A badge proves to everyone that you are a trusted protector of the woods!

2. Watch Over Your Local 'Oak Bark Park'

The Mission: Brin, the raccoon Guardian of Willowbend, watches over the forest to make sure all the animals are safe and the woods are protected.

Real-World Action: Become a protector of your own neighborhood or local park. You can do this by picking up litter, making sure you don't damage trees or plants, and observing bugs and animals (like Dukey's ant friend) without disturbing their habitats.

3. Build a Team and Celebrate Unique Strengths

The Mission: Dukey couldn't stop Ratticus alone. He needed Dudley's incredible tracking nose, Brin's agility, Cooper's massive size and calm strategy, and even Boomer the pug's door-busting strength.

Real-World Action: Find friends or siblings to form your own 'investigation team.' Recognize that everyone has a different superpower—maybe someone is a fast runner, someone is great at solving puzzles, and someone is a good listener. True Guardians know that different strengths make the best teams.

4. Stand Up to Bullies & Offer Second Chances

The Mission: Ratticus ruled his lair through fear and bullying, but Nibbsley and his friends just wanted to do good and escape his control. The heroes didn't just fight the bad guys; they welcomed the reformed rats into their community.

Real-World Action: Be brave enough to stand up for kids who are being picked on. Just as importantly, if someone who made a mistake wants to do the right thing and be a better friend, be like Brin and Dukey and give them a second chance to belong.

5. The Ultimate Guardian Test: Do Good Without a Reward

The Mission: When Fenric the Gray Wolf grants Dukey and Dudley their official titles in the Guardianship, it is because of their 'bravery and selfless loyalty'. As the book's Afterword explains, true heroes don't step up because they are greedy or expect a prize.

Real-World Action: Do one helpful thing for someone else—like doing a chore without being asked, helping a neighbor, or sharing something special—and keep it a secret. Doing the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do is the true mark of a Guardian.
