Dev Diary: Behind the Scenes of 'Ratticus Go-Cart Rampage'

If you've visited the Games Room lately, you might have spotted the preview for our biggest interactive project yet: Ratticus Go-Cart Rampage!

We've been hard at work behind the scenes turning the tranquil paths of Oak Bark Park and the dark tunnels of Willowbend into a high-octane, acorn and acorn butter throwing kart racer featuring many offensive and defensive weapons. Today, we're sharing a development update on our progress, character tuning, and what you can expect when the green flag drops.

The Track Lineup

Our goal is to launch with three fully realized tracks, each inspired by key locations in The Great Acorn Heist:

• Oak Bark Park Loop: A sunny, beginner-friendly circuit winding around the grand oak trees. Watch out for the stray roots and the giant mud puddle near Dudley's favorite digging spot!
• Willowbend Caves: A challenging, drift-heavy track inside the dark caverns under the forest. You'll need to slide around glowing mushrooms and dodge falling stalactites to keep your speed up.
• Acorn Stash Speedway: A high-speed dash through Ratticus's underground base. It features boost pads, elevator jumps, and a giant rotating waterwheel that will throw you off course if you miss your timing.

Woodland Racers & Kart Physics

We want every character to feel unique on the track. We've spent the last two weeks adjusting the weight, acceleration, and handling dynamics for our initial roster:

Dukey is our classic balanced racer. His kart (shaped like a giant hollowed-out log) has excellent traction, making him great for beginners. Dudley, driving a modified picnic basket, is our heavyweight. He has a slower start, but his top speed is unmatched once he gets rolling! Nibbsley is the lightweight champion. Driving an acorn shell, he can weave through tight corners and recovers almost instantly after being hit.

Acorns, Acorn Butter, & Battle Items

No kart racer is complete without items! We are sticking closely to the book and coding a variety of offensive and defensive items to shake up the race:

• Standard Acorns: Straight-flying projectiles you can launch forward to intercept rivals.
• Scent-Tracking Acorns: Guided projectiles that home in on the racer directly ahead.
• Acorn Butter Slippers: Defensive traps you can drop behind your kart, leaving a slick patch of acorn butter that causes anyone who runs over it to slide out of control!
